Protect You Kids – Camping Safety Tips
Views: 0
Kids are the apples of our eyes. Despite the fact that we not always are showing our fear for our children, we always care about them.
When it comes to camping, our level of fears rise. There are more possibilities for something to happen in the woods, by the lake or in the mountains than at home.
So, we have to prepare ourselves and our kids in advance to minimise the risks and be sure we know how to deal with the situation when something unexpected happens.
The Food
It is not the time to experiment with the food when going camping. You don’t want to deal with your kid’s diarrhea for the whole day or two.
Pack the foods which are tested on your kids. This will minimise the risk of indigestion and other food-related issues.
Bugs, Snakes & Other Animals
Be sure to make a research about the area you are going to with your kids. Read online reviews about it and find out whether there are insects, snakes or other animals that might be dangerous. If there are, consider choosing another direction or be sure to prepare yourself to meet those creatures.
On the other hand, there are common insects, such as mosquitos, ticks and other bugs, which are almost everywhere. So, be sure to take the anti-bug sprays and creams to protect your kids and yourself.
The Sun
When you are camping with your family, there are low odds your kids will stay in the tent for the whole day. Therefore, they will be exposed to the sun many hours per day.
The sun in good, but it may be dangerous as well.
To protect your kids from the hazardous effects of the sun, always have the sunscreen ready. Also make sure your kids wear hats ans sunglasses.
The Fire
The campsite is a great place to teach your children how to behave themselves with the fire. Just make sure you teach them before they go for it by themselves.
Go step-by-step explaining how to safely start the fire, how to maintain it and how to put it out before you leave the campsite.
This skill will be priceless for your kids, especially when they are out for their first camping trip without their parents.
The Area
You will probably go camping to places you don’t visit too often. Your kids will be not familiar with the area and, chances are, they might get lost.It is better to prepare yourself and kids for this situation in advance.
What can you do?
- Talk to your kids very seriously and explain the dangers of being lost. Don’t scare them too much, but let them understand that if they get lost, they might get in trouble.
- Make rules. Tell your children to let you know if they are going to the nearby forest or by the lake. It is not advisable to let them go alone there, but if you have older children, who you trust, it may be OK to let them explore the nearby area by themselves.
- Use technology. Give your kid a phone and make sure the battery is full. You can also give him / her a power bank in case the battery dies.
The Warmth
You don’t want your kid to catch a cold when camping. Be sure then to pack kid’s clothes which will keep him / her warm during the day and, most important, through the night.
Two layers of insulating clothing is a must, plus a fleece hat and thich woolen socks.
Enjoy your time camping and be safe.
